Position

Position is used to determine who's turn to play / bet in poker. In Texas Hold em this is very important, if you are the last one to act in a hand you get to see what everybody else does first.

For example you have A-A the board is A-K-Q (with no flush possibility) giving another player a possible straight and you three of a kind. The simplest is approximation to how many cards are left that can give you the nut hand. There's one Ace left, 3 K's and 3 Q's that's 7 outs. To calculate your pot odds for the turn multiply the number of outs by 4.
