Through the first nine matches of the season, Orlando has scored and conceded twenty-seven goals, most in the Eastern Conference. I’ve been critical of the Orlando defense all season, and they do not have players at their disposal right now to solve their problems at the back. With starting right-back Joao Moutinho injured, Orlando is incredibly thin for a defense that was not good, to begin with.

Expect Chris Mueller to be back in the starting eleven after he was on the bench due to squad rotation on Wednesday night. Mueller had two goals in consecutive starts before being dropped. How Far Will Atlanta Drop?
When Josef Martinez went down with an injury in the first match of the season, I did not expect the impact to be quite this detrimental for Atlanta. When having possession of the ball they just do not have a player that can find the back of the net consistently. These two sides faced off a week ago and the final score was 3-1 in Orlando’s favor. I see a similar scoreline here, but we will be relying on Ezequiel Barco to shoulder the load and get us a goal.
Pity Martinez is heading out the door to Saudi Arabia in an eighteen million dollar deal and seems to have played his last match for Atlanta. He is a big name with a large price tag, but he honestly was not a great player during his tenure in the MLS. In this one, I am banking on how poor Orlando’s defense is. Atlanta should not have an issue getting their goal.

Houston Dynamo vs. Sporting Kansas City

Dynamo’s Offense Stays Hot
It has been a great week for Houston, as they picked up six points in their two matches while scoring eight goals in the process. Last weekend Dynamo took Kansas City to the woodshed in a 5-2 beat down, which could have gone much worse for SKC. Right-winger Darwin Quintero has three goals in his last two matches and shows no sign of slowing down.
On the left-wing is Alberth Elis, who came over from Monterrey in 2017. Elis has bundles of pace and an equal eye for goal scoring in the double digits in two of his first three seasons for Houston. I see no reason why Houston would let off offensively as the mentioned wingers will eat the Kansas City fullbacks for dinner once again Saturday night.
Is Sporting KC Hitting a Wall?
Sporting KC still sits atop the Western Conference thanks to a really strong showing in the group stages of the MLS is Back tournament. However, since the play restarted in August, SKC has only picked up five points from a possible twelve. I think we are seeing serious regression to the mean, which stems from their defense being exposed for what it really is. Kansas City has allowed a goal in every match since the August restart. I would be shocked to see them manage another clean sheet for some time.
Luckily for Kansas City, they have Alan Pulido as their striker. The ex-Chivas forward came out of the gates hot to start his MLS career scoring in three goals and adding four assists this year. Kansas City also gets back their top scorer in Gadi Kinda, who missed the last match due to a red card. At full strength, this team is capable of scoring loads of goals.

Seattle Sounders vs. Portland Timbers

Best in the West
With a game in hand on Kansas City, Seattle will find themselves on top of the Western Conference with a win at home against bitter rivals Portland on Sunday night. Top sportsbooks have the Sounders priced at even odds, which I believe is fair. In my opinion, this is the best team in the MLS and should be considered the favorite to win this season’s championship.
With five goals and two assists from the left-wing, including two in his last start against LAFC, Jordan Morris has been nothing short of incredible this season. Raul Rudiaz also has five goals to his name, including three in his last three matches. In their three games since the season got back underway, Seattle has scored at least two goals in each. I see a similar showing on Sunday, similar to the last match between these teams that finished 3-0 for the Sounders.
Portland Need at Least a Point Sunday Night
Since winning the MLS is Back tournament over the summer, Portland has been abysmal. They've collected just one point from a possible total of nine over their last three. The Timbers are well known for having an organized defense with two very good defensive midfielders. However, the wheels have fallen off the wagon, as they allowed ten goals over the last three games.
You cannot afford to travel to Seattle, who has a dominant offense, with that kind of defensive form. It spells disaster for manager Giovanni Savarese who needs to pull this side together and hope to snag a point from their Pacific Coast rival. I just do not see that happening. Sounders will get theirs Sunday night.

Cincinnati allowed five goals in two outings, tied for the worst defense in the Eastern Conference.
A winning $10 wager on Columbus (-110) nets a profit of $9.10. A $10 wager on Cincinnati (+290) would net a $29 profit if it were to pull off the upset.
Over/Under (O/U)
UNDER 2.5 (-121) is the way to be, as the Under is 3-1 through the first four matches of the MLS is Back Tournament, and it would be a perfect 4-0 if not for Orlando City SC’s game-winning tally at 90’+7 against Miami the other night.
